A strategic approach to managerial excellence and culture change

Situation

Alex, the Head of Learning and Development at a burgeoning startup, found himself at a critical juncture. The most recent engagement survey revealed disappointing performance marks for managers within the company. Equipped with a budget for training and development, Alex began looking for solutions to uplift the company culture. After hearing about my work from a professional colleague and conducting some additional research online, Alex decided to reach out. Following a 30-minute discovery call where we discussed my Manager Essentials and Courageous Communicator programs, he felt enthusiastic about implementing both for his team of 20 people managers.

Challenge

The challenge was twofold:

  • Implement a foundational management training program for 20 people managers who had never received formal managerial training.
  • Introduce effective communication skills through the Courageous Communicator program, thereby improving the quality of leadership within the company.

Resolution

After our discovery call, Alex and I decided on a multi-faceted approach to address the gaps in managerial skills and communication within his organization. The Manager Essentials program was rolled out via Zoom sessions, providing the essential training necessary for all the people managers in the company. Meanwhile, the Courageous Communicator program was integrated into the organization's upcoming Leadership retreat, offering an in-depth, on-site experience focused on enhancing communication skills.

Impact

The double-barreled approach of Manager Essentials and Courageous Communicator yielded immediate positive outcomes. Managers reported increased confidence in their roles, leading to enhanced employee engagement and satisfaction. Alex noted a palpable shift in company culture, marked by improved communication, increased accountability, and more effective management across the board.

Not only did the programs positively impact the managers who participated, but they also set a new standard for leadership development within Alex’s startup. The success of both workshops cemented their place in the company’s ongoing development curriculum, ensuring a long-term impact on managerial performance and company culture.
